Still Life

The birth of this pictorial genre (today "Natura Morta") dates back to 1650 among Dutch painters. Still Even in Dutch meant "immobile object" and depicted scenes of fruit, breakfasts, banquets and hunting. The diffusion of these paintings, which were inspired by the goods on display in the markets, can be considered the indicator of a notable development of the new British trade relations of the 18th and 19th centuries with overseas countries.
